ASSESS THE IMPACT OF YOUR TINNITUS !
Tinnitus is a noise in the head, the ear or both, resulting in buzzing or whistling noises. Measuring this symptom is very complicated, as it is highly subjective. The best way to measure a tinnitusIs the patient's self-assessment. To measure tinnitus-related discomfort, a test called THI (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory) is most often used.
VisitTHI (Tinnitus Handicap Inventory)Is aself-assessment questionnaireUsed to measure the impact of tinnitus (whistling, ringing in the ears) on a patient's quality of life.
■ The THI questionnaire measures the loudness of tones and the psychological and functional variables caused by tinnitus. This recognized and validated test is a reliable tool for understanding the day-to-day discomfort of tinnitustinnitus.
This THI questionnaire was created in 1996 by Newman, then translated and confirmed by Ghuilyan-Bedikianet 2010, and highlights the impact of disability on the patient's psychology.
This questionnaire consists of 25 questions with 3 response options: YES, SOMETIMES, NO. At the end of the questionnaire, the patient obtains a score from 0 to 100, which gives an idea of the severity of the tinnitus. The higher the score, the more disabling the tinnitus.
■ THI objective
- Assess the severity of the discomfort caused by tinnitus.
- Monitor patient progress before, during and after treatment.
■ Structure
- 25 questions grouped into three subscales:
-
- FunctionalImpact on concentration, sleep and daily life.
- EmotionalAnxiety, depression, irritability linked to tinnitus.
- CatastrophicFeelings of loss of control, inability to manage the problem.
■ Rating system
- Each question has three possible answers:
-
- Yes(4 points)
- Sometimes(2 points)
- No(0 point)
■ Final score :
- 0 to 16: Mild disability
- 18 to 36: Mild to moderate disability
- 38 to 56: Average handicap
- 58 to 76: Severe disability
- 78 to 100: Catastrophic handicap
In the clinical studyAUDISTIM DAY/NIGHTThe disability was moderate to severe, the THI score for permanent tinnitus (the most disabling) was reduced by 15 points, whereas a study by Zeman et al in 2011 showed that with a reduction of 7 points, the study was already significant.
In terms of safety and efficacy, AUDISTIM JOUR/NUIT is a relevant therapeutic solution for treating tinnitus.
